Circa early 1900s England.
A handsome and generously proportioned camphor wood traveling trunk, brass bound and fitted with brass corner mounts and carrying handles. The richly figured camphor timber has developed a beautiful warm patina over time, complemented by the original brass strapping and hardware. The exceptional quality of the timber, combined with its rich coloring and striking grain, gives the piece remarkable presence while making it an increasingly rare and desirable example.
Originally used as a traveling trunk by British military officers, this campaign trunk is as practical as it is beautiful. It works wonderfully as a distinctive coffee table, a low side table beside a sofa or chair, or as a storage chest at the foot of a bed. With its generous scale, clean lines, and timeless craftsmanship, it makes a statement in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
