French Oak Dough Bin Table

A wonderful early 19th-century French oak kneading table, originally used for preparing and proofing bread dough in the kitchens of large country homes. Dough would have been kneaded on the broad work surface, then placed inside the deep trough to rise, with ample room for several batches at once. The loose-fitting top simply slides off to reveal the generous interior storage.

Beautifully aged oak, simple proportions and centuries of use give this piece an especially warm, collected feel. Today, it makes a striking and versatile addition to the home—perfect as a kitchen island, console table, blanket chest or TV console.
